May 20, 2010 - Lyons Collects Victory on Wild Night @ the Zoo

Brandon Lyons charged from 10th starting spot to capture the victory in the Outlaw Super Late Model Feature Saturday night at Kalamazoo Speedway.  Lyons a multi-time Limited Late Model track champion took the lead at the midway point of the event and held off Andy Bozell at the finish for the victory.  The victory also locks Lyons into the All-Star Shootout on July 4th.  Rick Sexton was third ahead of Randy Day and Billy Shannon.  Dan Roodvoets, Trent Hellenga, Phil Bozell, Evan Barrett and Rick Senneker rounded out the top ten.  Tom Thomas was the quickest qualifier with a lap of 12.674 seconds and heat races were won by Senneker and Andy Bozell.

Mike Brooks made it two for two in the Modified division defeating a hard charging Ben Raber.  Ryan Wheeler collected a third place finish ahead of Brent Hook, Michelle Sexton, Mark Flierman, Dan Loughan, Ben Kleis, Matt Bainbridge and Steve Dolphin.  AJ Foote set quick time with a 13.421 while Hook and Sexton won the heats.

Phil Bozell made a final corner pass on Buddy Head to win a thrilling although scary Super Stock feature.  A huge crash midway through the race left Bryan VanZile’s car teetering on top of Darren Lane’s machine and left both drivers out the event.  Hank Miller set quick time and finished third ahead of Chris Shannon and Jake Hopwood.  Tom Rutherford, Kelli Jo Hofacker, Rick VanHouten, Jamison Russell and Josh Leo rounded out the top ten.  Matt Corliss and Ron Hughson Jr. won the heats.

The most popular victory of the night came in the Pro Stock division where Keith Wilfong picked up his first career victory.  Ron Landis finished second ahead of Matt Noble, Tyler Hufford and last weeks winner Butch Glass.  James Wheaton, Jamie Miller, Dave Bowen, Alan Rhoderick and Scott Elsey finished 6th through 10th.  Noble was quick time while Wheaton and Landis won heats.

Another thrilling Cyber Stock feature saw Nick Layman stay undefeated in 2010 by defeating 2009 champion Keith Dunham, Dale Leonard, Jerry Jansen and TC Burgess.  Doug Nelson was sixth ahead of Logan Knight, Brian Gregersen, Nick Adams and Walter Nielson.  Kaylee Misak set quick time with a 17.263.  Shawn Misak, Kyle Knapp and Bob Richmond won the heats.

Next Saturday is Lottery Night at the Zoo where fans will have several chances to win thousands of dollars !  Stay tuned to www.kalamazoospeedway.com all week long for more details.
