Wine, Shewchuk and Zachary Earn Their Way into Today’s All-Star Shootout

Ralph Wine picked up the first segment in Saturday night’s AllStar Performance All-Star Last Chance race which earned him the 11^th starting position for today’s All-Star Shootout.  Mike Shewchuk earned the victory in the second segment of the race, which earned him the 12^th starting spot for today.  Finally Brandon Zachary won the “Lane Roll Off” which earned him the final starting spot.  Trent Hellenga and Tom Thomas won the two qualifying races to set the starting positions for today’s feature event.  So with all the preliminary events now completed the staring positions for the 2011 AllStar Performance All-Star Shootout are as follows:

In the Modified division defending champion Mike Brooks put an end to Ben Raber’s three race win streak with a dominating victory.  Raber, who set quick time, finished second ahead of Brent Hook, Tom McGhee and heat race winner Lindsey Katz.  AJ Foote came from the back twice to finish sixth ahead of Tim Easey, Clay DePlanche, Megan Carpenter and Chris May.  It was a tough night for a couple of championship contenders as Matt Bainbridge won a heat but finished 13^th  in the feature and Ryan Wheeler finished 14^th.

Eric McGlothlen rebounded nicely with a win in the Super Stock division, which saw arguably its best race of the season so far.  Mickey Cornwell showed a lot of strength in his 2^nd place finish ahead of Brandon Lyons, who again set quick time.  Matt Corliss finished 4^th ahead of Kenny and Buddy Head, Jake Hopwood, Ron Houghson Jr., Steve Curry and Dave Sensiba.  Notable finishers included Chris Shannon in 11^th and Jamison Russell in 13^th.  Jerry Zachary and Cornwell won the heat races while Brandon Zachary won the Last Chance.

Travis Hall picked up the win in the Pro Stock feature holding off Lloyd Brooks.  Toby Montgomery set quick time and finished 3^rd ahead of Keith Wilfong, Ron Landis, Bob Metheny, James Wheaton, Greg Haynes, Scott Elsey and Shawn Misak.  Notable finishers included Tyler Hufford, who finished 12^th after a flat tire ruined his charge through the field.    Misak and Elsey won the heats.

In the Cyber Stocks, Jerry Jansen III rebounded from his crash the week before with a convincing victory over Nick Layman, Bryen Pion, Lauryn Rousseau and Bob Miller.  Cliff Lambert, Everett Smith, Doug Nelson, Lee Misak and Travis Krum completed the top ten.  Doug Smith, who entered the night just 20 points out of the lead failed to finish and ended up 20^th.  Pion set quick time while Rousseau and Bryce Smith won the heats.

Next on the schedule is one of the biggest events of the season at Kalamazoo Speedway.  Today, Sunday, July 3 is the All-Star Shootout for the Outlaw Super Late Models.  The best Outlaw Super Late Models drivers in the world will be going for $5,000 to win!!  Then the Belle Tire Four Cylinder Enduro Series will run the Stars & Stripes 200.  Randy Clingan will try to cling to his point lead over Alan Breuker, Jim Cauffman, Corey Miechiels, Robert Boersen and the rest of the field.  Finally the world famous Kalamazoo Speedway fireworks will light up the sky in which promises to be the best fireworks display in the state of Michigan.  Racing starts at 7pm!!
