Brooks Wins Gun Lake Casino 50 @ the Zoo
Mike “Bubba” Brooks became the fifth different winner in five Outlaw Super Late Model races this season at Kalamazoo Speedway. Brooks held off a hard charging Trent Hellenga to pick up the win. Brian Bergakker collected another strong finish with a third place run ahead of point leader Andy Bozell, who collected his fifth top five of the season. Mark Shook finished 5th ahead of Luke Krick, Todd Harrington, Randy Chupp, Jeff Bozell and Todd Dougherty. Notable finishers included Phil Bozell (who set quick time) in 11th and Cool Shirt 50 winner Billy Shannon in 15th. Dougherty and Doug Rodanhisler won the heats.
Tyler Hufford picked up a very popular win in the 25 lap Pro Stock feature holding off former champion Greg Haynes for the victory. Point leader Lloyd Brooks finished third ahead of Brent Hook and Keith Wilfong. Zack Cook finished 6th beating out Jim Wheaton, Bryan Noble, Randy Simmons and last week’s winner Ron Landis. Hufford also won his heat race, as did Brooks. Brooks was also quick time.
Cyber Mania presented by Weller Auto Parts saw a very exciting event with Jack Cook coming out on top. Wayne Stack chased Cook all the way to the line but came up just short to finish second ahead of Dale Leonard, Jerry Jansen Jr. (who set quick time), Tristan Crago, Barry Jenkins, Walter Nielson IV, defending champion Doug Smith, Felicia Meade and Brian Gregersen. Notable finishers included Logan Knight in 15th. John Rousseau won the ‘B’ Feature.
The night’s final event was the 50 lap feature for the Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Super Sprint Series. A thrilling race saw Jo Jo Helberg come out victorious over Jason Cox, Troy DeClaire, Bill Tyler and Ryan Litt. Joe Swanson was sixth ahead of Jason Blonde, Randy Sweet, Ryan Gillenwater and Tanner Swanson. Cox was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 10.411 seconds at over 129mph. Jeff Bloom, Swanson and Blonde won the heat races.
This Saturday night the action continues with another 5 in 1 show highlighted by the Lee’s Chicken 50 for the Outlaw Super Late Models. The Super Stocks will also return to action, just four days before the first ever Super Stock Klash. The Pro Stocks will also be tuning up for next Wednesday’s special with the Pro Stock Cash Bash presented by Aeroquip, which will pay $500 to win. The Mini Stocks and Cyber Stocks will also be in action.
